A Proud History When Dr. John Q. A. Stewart founded Stewart Home School in 1893, no longer were hospitals and institutions there to protect and nurture people with disabling conditions. They were maintained to protect the public at large from disabled people, especially those with mental retardation or mental illness. Home School. Dr. John P. Stewart, current chairman of the board

of the school's proud past and extends its dynamic opportunities
