Special Olympics for Special Olympians The Special Olympics is an international program of year-round sports training and athletic competition for more than one million physical and intellectually challenged children and adults.Benefits of participation in Special Olympics include improved fitness and motor skills, greater self-confidence, and a more positive self image. Special Olympics athletes carry these benefits with them into their daily lives at home, in the classroom, on the job, and in the community. ![]() Special Olympics events are a very important part of life at Stewart Home School. Our participation began in 1974, with the organization of our basketball program. David Sellwood, who was at that time in charge of all recreation and sports programs, began contacting area schools and scheduled games in which our team could participate. Now, more than three decades later, our Special Olympics programs have blossomed into sports for Special Olympians of all ages and abilities. Currently, our Students participate in basketball, bowling, golf, cheerleading, equestrian, golf, skiing, snowshoeing, soccer, softball, swimming, track & fields, and weightlifting. Our Special Olympics activities are open to anyone who has an interest in participating. It’s a great way to have fun, make friends, and keep healthy! |
